Global Recession

I am markedly afraid.

Kevin Rudd just went up on TV and more or less said nothing about how we're going to get out of a global recession, or how we're going to fight our way through it. Instead, we got lots of other people coming up to talk about it and to give suggestions. We even had some funky commercial with little kids singing 'It's a hard knock life for you' and an advertising about a Lentil Restaurant in Melbourne [why do they do this is us poor freaks in Perth] where you have a choice on whether to pay or not. And Kochie from Channel 7 going on about housing mortages and saving money by bringing your lunch. Yet Kevin Rudd was supposed to be the highlight of this interview.

I've begun to rethink my opinions on people who head the country, and that the position of Prime Minister is not quite as intelligent and demanding as I once thought it would be.
If anything, all Mr. Rudd did was to blast away at the opposition and beat about the bush on the topic of global recession, as though this were merely another session of Parliament and not an interview in which he was supposed to give information, assurance and comfort to the people who had lost their jobs at Bond's factory.

Whom in my opinion should be rioting in front of the factory and beating on the door of the owner of Bonds right now demanding a fat paycheck as retribution for their troubles. Same goes for any others who've lost their jobs.

Save money save money save money.

Why is is so hard to save up once you get to student level?

But, point of the fact was - it's here, in my face, and it won't go away. There's so much I want to do, want to spend on, so much I have to save up for etc etc.
Suddenly, Singapore looks like very much the ideal place to live.

I have a clear memory of my New Years Resolutions, and that one of them was to stop spending so much money this year. I am not sure how succesful I've been with that recently. =/ But I'm starting to think that it may not be as easy as I hoped it would be.

PS. On the topic of spending - I've just realised that my calendar is full of people with birthdays in March. And due to migration patterns of people coming to study in Perth, it appears as though I will be very broke this month.

Political Propoganda

We are currently in the midst of yet another political election. This time, it's not Kevin Rudd vs. John Howard, but rather Alan Carpenter vs. Colin Barnett.

And I've decided that political propoganda in Australia is weak and without direction.
Honestly, when you launch a campaign, you should be telling the people what you want to do, how your policies are just that much better than the other person's. A bit if a put down here and there is fine. But honestly, I would so much rather hear what a politician has to offer, than what he/she has to say about the other side.

In Australia, politicians do not tell us what they have to offer. In fact, they use all their money on propoganda, telling us about how bad the other side is.

Back in 2007:
K. Rudd: Well, I'm so much better because...John Howard will do this, and he'll do that, and I mean, i'm doing these things, but those work choices that John Howard has will kill our jobs!!
J. Howard: Don't vote for Kevin Rudd and his odd bunch of Labors...they'll stuff our economy!!

And the list actually does go on. I saw some really odd propoganda videos on TV in 2007, but they're not showing them anymore.

Now, in 2008:
A. Carpenter: I'm a much better choice because...the Liberal party have already had FIVE LEADERS SINCE THE LAST ELECTION!!
C. Barnett: No! Wait! The A.C. is trying to trick you! I mean, he's holding elections just after the Olympics when no one is going to pay attention!!

Not in so many words, and certainly not in that language, but that really is the gist of it.
There was a political debate going on between those two, but I didn't watch. English Lit was just that much more important than they were, unfortunately.
I think Aussie politicians need to step up their game. Barack Obama and John McCain are putting them both to shame.
If it came down to Alan Carpenter, Colin Barnett of John McCain [should John ever become an Australian], I would vote McCain. Just because his campaign is that much better.

But since McCain will never become Australian, and because Australian politics is lame:

First Aussie Blog!

My first blog in a long time. Whoopee-dee!
Yes guys, I am incredibly sorry about my MIA-ness, but I have been incredibly busy and have not been able to blog. This has also been aided by the fact that until Wednesday, I did not actually have an internet with which I could log onto and use to blog. But now that I have my own connection, I am back again!

Many things have changed since the last time. I no longer reside in South Africa (oh beautiful place, how I miss you, I wish I could go back for holidays and stuff, no matter how horrible Jets and Ackermans are XD) Instead, I now live in Western Australia, Perth; a quaint, but incredibly large state that can be confused for a very quiet country. Which is a very polite way of saying there is absolutely nothing to do here, I must admit. Especially if, like me, you are sick and tired of the oversized glory that is the beach and want to see snow instead. And I must warn you now, that really IS all there is to do here. The city is not something I can gladly be proud of. (well, after Malaysia, I suppose not) Although that is pretty much the biggest entertainment centre one can have in a place like Western Australia.
Political-wise, we have entered an era of new leadership under Kevin Rudd, who isn’t too bad, I suppose, he has yet to actually do something to anger me, seeing as he only took over like last week. Besides which, he’s actually bringing back the Aussie soldiers from Iraq, so that’s a plus point for him. He’s also promised each student in the country that we’re going to get our own computers. One computer; one student. Now whether I’m actually going to get it before I leave school NEXT YEAR remains to be seen.

I currently go to Morley Senior High School. It is a public school and is currently giving me the biggest headache of my entire school career. Not that it’s bad or anything, but I don’t like many of the students who have zip zilch zero respect for teachers and everyone else. Some are alright, and I am pretty friendly with those who I am constantly seeing around me everyday (because they actually HAVE respect) but I am increasingly horrified by the lack of respect shown by many of the younger students and how they can just start fights like it’s nothing. Some year 10s actually attempted to start a fight with the guys in my year and, being there, I can assure you it was scary enough just speculating. Thankfully the guys in MY year had sense enough to say no, and I am perfectly happy that I am in the year that I am now. Even IF I am now one of the oldest instead of one of the youngest…XD I am a nenek!

That is for year 11. And I am done with year 11. So technically, I’m not taking them anymore…XD

Applicable Maths

Political and Legal Studies

The teachers and my headmistress assure me that there are differences in the subjects such as English 1A1B and 2A2B, although I have yet to actually see and understand these differences. Same goes for Discrete and Applicable Maths. Apparently Applicable Maths is a year 12 subject which is a continuation of Introductory Calculus in year 11. I only hope I can actually do it in year 12 because otherwise my life is very screwed, as I have not even TOUCHED calculus in any maths class before.
The uniform is one that will be a pretty familiar sight to us in South Africa (Jo-burgers!) and who know Crawford College, LOL. Well, similar, not the same. We have no blazer, that’s for sure. The uniform can be navy blue or white, so long as the shirt has the school badge on it and anything can be worn, long pants, shorts, skirts etc, so long as the boys don’t attend in drag and it’s not jeans. Shoes must cover al of the feet and that’s it. Any hairstyle can be worn, any amount of piercing may be shown and readily flaunted, so long as the earrings going through them are not hoops or extra long dangling ones. Make up can be worn, and some of the girls use more make up than the teachers do. Or so I believe.
So voila! Thus is the uniform at Morley Senior High.
