No.

No. No. NO. NO?!?!

HOW did Perth ever make it to such a vote??
Can the added benefits of Daylight Savings not be seen?
Such as the fact that I won’t have to walk home in the dark when summer time comes around?? Or the fact that I will be able to wake up at 6am instead of the insane, ungodly hour of 5am when the sun will rise if Daylight Savings is not put into place??

What is WRONG with these people???

For the past five years, Western Australia has been undergoing a ‘Daylight Savings Trial’ where the clocks would be turned forward an hour every summer. Until that point in time, WA was the only state backward enough not to see the benefits of daylight savings.

A referendum (or a vote concerning the constitution/nation’s state of affairs) was put to the people on the 16th of May 2009.

And after five years of enjoying more sunlight and waking up at reasonable hours, THIS is the result we get??

The ‘no’ vote was tipped to win even before the referendum votes were counted. And it was close. Very close. Although I think the votes are still being counted, results currently stand at 45.3% 'Yes' votes and 54.7% 'No' votes. According to this website: http://www.waec.wa.gov.au/elections/live.php, the count has progressed by 82.89%.

I just want to say ‘thank you’ to those who voted yes. And despite knowing that it will be another friggin twenty years before another referendum concerning this comes up, at least I know you’ll probably vote ‘yes’ again.

There appeared to be a trend in the voters. Those who were younger than 25 generally wanted Daylight Savings to come in permanently. All the older people and the farmers wanted to continue going about their daily lives waking up at 5am. Just because it was too “troublesome to change the clocks every summer”.

%#*$@!*&#&

After finding out the result I locked myself in my room and plotted about a million ways to get myself out of the state as soon as possible. However, due to university requirement, I won’t be going anywhere permanently for a while.
Thankfully I will be out in another 4 years. I don’t think I can live with waking up at 5am every summer all that long. I already forsee a very tough 4 years ahead of me. Guess I should try going for holidays every summer then…

University Applications

I finished them BOTH!!!

And...now I just gotta pay up for both.
Meh. That's such a bummer. So it means I'm not actually completely done after all.
I've decided that the VTAC [Victoria] application process is a lot more troublesome than the TISC [WA] application process is. But then again, perhaps all the talks my teachers gave me, and all the university lectures they subjected me to based on this thing have actually drilled into my head without my noticing, and therefore seems easier.

In WA, I've applied to UWA and Curtin. In Victoria, I've applied to the University of Melbourne, Monash and...the International College of Hotel Management.
Yeah, the last one sounds weird. And I'm betting no one actually believed I'd be interested in this area of study. I haven't even told my parents yet, and I'm starting to wonder how they'll react to it. But it's my last choice, and my last resort for if I completely fail to get into the other universities. And hey, on the bright side, the hotel business is a lucrative one to get into. Look at the Hilton, the Sheraton and the Shangri-La. Look at Mandarin Oriental. Look at the Indaba. That's a lot of money they're pulling in. And seeing as I've been in and out of hotels for most of my life...I think it'd be great to make a business out of one of the places that I feel at home in.

I'm relieved. To be honest. I've finished the applications wayyyy before the due date, and I can finally concentrate on my work and such.

Now I've just go to get through the TEE and then my university applications won't have gone to waste.

First Aussie Blog!

My first blog in a long time. Whoopee-dee!
Yes guys, I am incredibly sorry about my MIA-ness, but I have been incredibly busy and have not been able to blog. This has also been aided by the fact that until Wednesday, I did not actually have an internet with which I could log onto and use to blog. But now that I have my own connection, I am back again!

Many things have changed since the last time. I no longer reside in South Africa (oh beautiful place, how I miss you, I wish I could go back for holidays and stuff, no matter how horrible Jets and Ackermans are XD) Instead, I now live in Western Australia, Perth; a quaint, but incredibly large state that can be confused for a very quiet country. Which is a very polite way of saying there is absolutely nothing to do here, I must admit. Especially if, like me, you are sick and tired of the oversized glory that is the beach and want to see snow instead. And I must warn you now, that really IS all there is to do here. The city is not something I can gladly be proud of. (well, after Malaysia, I suppose not) Although that is pretty much the biggest entertainment centre one can have in a place like Western Australia.
Political-wise, we have entered an era of new leadership under Kevin Rudd, who isn’t too bad, I suppose, he has yet to actually do something to anger me, seeing as he only took over like last week. Besides which, he’s actually bringing back the Aussie soldiers from Iraq, so that’s a plus point for him. He’s also promised each student in the country that we’re going to get our own computers. One computer; one student. Now whether I’m actually going to get it before I leave school NEXT YEAR remains to be seen.

I currently go to Morley Senior High School. It is a public school and is currently giving me the biggest headache of my entire school career. Not that it’s bad or anything, but I don’t like many of the students who have zip zilch zero respect for teachers and everyone else. Some are alright, and I am pretty friendly with those who I am constantly seeing around me everyday (because they actually HAVE respect) but I am increasingly horrified by the lack of respect shown by many of the younger students and how they can just start fights like it’s nothing. Some year 10s actually attempted to start a fight with the guys in my year and, being there, I can assure you it was scary enough just speculating. Thankfully the guys in MY year had sense enough to say no, and I am perfectly happy that I am in the year that I am now. Even IF I am now one of the oldest instead of one of the youngest…XD I am a nenek!

The subjects I am currently taking are:
English 2A2B
Foundations of Maths
Chemistry
Human Biology
History
Political and Legal Studies

That is for year 11. And I am done with year 11. So technically, I’m not taking them anymore…XD
NEXT year, I am taking:
English Literature
Applicable Maths
Chemistry
Human Biology
History
Political and Legal Studies

The teachers and my headmistress assure me that there are differences in the subjects such as English 1A1B and 2A2B, although I have yet to actually see and understand these differences. Same goes for Discrete and Applicable Maths. Apparently Applicable Maths is a year 12 subject which is a continuation of Introductory Calculus in year 11. I only hope I can actually do it in year 12 because otherwise my life is very screwed, as I have not even TOUCHED calculus in any maths class before.
The uniform is one that will be a pretty familiar sight to us in South Africa (Jo-burgers!) and who know Crawford College, LOL. Well, similar, not the same. We have no blazer, that’s for sure. The uniform can be navy blue or white, so long as the shirt has the school badge on it and anything can be worn, long pants, shorts, skirts etc, so long as the boys don’t attend in drag and it’s not jeans. Shoes must cover al of the feet and that’s it. Any hairstyle can be worn, any amount of piercing may be shown and readily flaunted, so long as the earrings going through them are not hoops or extra long dangling ones. Make up can be worn, and some of the girls use more make up than the teachers do. Or so I believe.

So voila! Thus is the uniform at Morley Senior High.

That's all for now folks! More soon, (and hopefully more pictures!)
